Bovine Serum produced by SCBT is of New Zealand origin and the whole blood collected is from abattoirs with export permits for US & EU markets i.e. of USDA and EU Standards.

All the animals are subjected to ante-mortem and post-mortem examinations by qualified and registered veterinarians. Blood is collected from animals which are fit for human consumption. Cattle suppliers to abattoirs need to sign an animal status declaration giving history of their animals. Each individual animal can be traced back to its origin as all animals are tagged at all stages. Blood is obtained from animals which were of New Zealand origin and were processed in premises pursuant to the Meat Act 1981 or approved by the Food Safety Authority. It is produced in accordance with New Zealand law. The cows from which the co-products were derived, passed ante and post-mortem FSA Verification Agency veterinary inspection.

Immediately after slaughter, whole blood is collected, clotted or defibrinated (depending on client requirements) centrifuged and frozen. Frozen serum is sent to the laboratory for filtration and sterilization. Finally, serum is stored in 4.5/20 L HDPE containers at –20 °C.
